Oregon Arts Alliance, Lane Literary Guild and Oregon State Poetry Association are sponsoring a Poetry Box Tour & Reading this Saturday, April 9, in Eugene. Poetry boxes are realtor flyer-style boxes featuring poetry for public consumption. Nobody seems to know just where the idea for the boxes originated, but the practice (in some places they’re called poetry posts) has been spreading throughout the Northwest over the past several years (Corvallis, Portland, Seattle).
Saturday’s Eugene event begins at 10:30 am at Tsunami Books, 2585 Willamette, where participants will be treated to a brief poem-caching/poetry box overview and readings by local poets. Pamphlets will be handed out, mapping a route around town of seven more box and reading locations over several hours, culminating in a 2:30-4 pm poetry party and open-mic at Oregon Arts Alliance, 881 Willamette, downtown Eugene. It’s all free.
