One Nightstand

The World Made by Hand by James Howard Kunstler

Good enough that I jumped right into the sequel. Scary thing about Kunstler is that The Long Emergency, his nonfiction book regarding oil, has become a standard in the ‘what the hell is going to happen to our planet?’ genre, and he’s been right so far. That gives this post-apocalypse story some real legs and a lot more gravitas than some of the other end-of-the-world scenarios. He tells a good story, and offers interesting sociological ideas about the kinds of small-scale, local communities that are likely to form once the oil is gone.
