If you’re starting to make those holiday shopping lists, Indie Craft (Laurence King) by Jo Waterhouse will make a fine present for the crafty person on your list, though it’s so much fun, it might not make it to the prospective giftee because you’ve accidentally spilled coffee or salad dressing on its pages while leafing through it. If you like the embroidered Dolly Parton on the cover or the guerilla art legwarmers knitted for statues of Knitta Please, this book is for you. With a foreword by Handmade Nation documentarian Faythe Levine, Indie Craft features twenty-nine portraits of crafters and their work. We’re especially fond of Portland’s Erin Dollar, who makes fake beards out of yarn and felt and sells them on Etsy. These are beards to plan a Halloween costume around. Joaquin Phoenix, anyone?
