In an article about the recent recall of 450 million eggs over concern about salmonella, the Christian Science Monitor listed five books to check out about food, safety and eating locally. Tucked in with the usual suspects (Fast Food Nation, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle) is a charming, hand-lettered and illustrated book about raising chickens by one Minnie Rose Lovgreen. The Bainbridge Island-based NW Trillium Press reprinted Minnie Rose Lovgreen’s Recipe for Raising Chickens last year. It’s not just charming but contains some of the best advice for backyard chickens around!
