Before the uber-popular Eat, Pray, Love and its follow-up, Committed, Elizabeth Gilbert wrote a fascinating biography of a modern day mountain man named Eustace Conway. The Last American Man (Viking, 2002) was a finalist for the National Book Award and shows that Gilbert’s repertoire includes more than her own heart.
