Josh Ritter, someone we know as an Idaho-born singer/songwriter, has written a stunning first novel. Named by Paste Magazine as one of the 100 Greatest Living Songwriters, perhaps someday he will hold a similar position in the literary fiction world. This book is that good. I think he has marvelous potential. The lyrics of his songs weave stories and have undoubtedly provided fertile ground for his book, Bright’s Passage. Today I listened to one of his songs, Girl in the War, on YouTube and I immediately recognized the similarity in the wistful tune and the mood of the book. (longer review available upon request)
