Book club alert!!! This book, about a wholesome family show that takes place in the 1960s, is a dream book club selection! It’s charming, engaging, and would give ladies sooooooo much to talk about!!! It’s about social expectations and restrictions, and the strain of judgment from others and ourselves. Very good! ~ Annette
An enjoyable tale of the perfect American television family, as defined by the male creators of the show and their male sponsors, coming to terms with a changing world, declining viewership and an acknowledgement of their need to modernize and be closer to who they, and society, really are. I couldn’t wait for the females and the marginalized males to get their chances to change history and kick the staid, false, and outdated pretenses to the curb and create a more socially accurate and truthful narrative. Good stuff in the end, and book clubs will love this for sure. ~ Debbie
Ok…so the world feels as if it’s on fire these days, no? Return with me to a simpler time. Ahhhh the ’60s. Things were SO. MUCH. BETTER. then. Right?! Ha! Ok. Reality check. Meet the Newmans perfectly encapsulates a time and era. They walked so we could run. We stand on the shoulders of bold individuals who dared greatly. I enjoyed this one immensely. If you find it difficult to don the apron and return to the kitchen while reading this book, stay the course. Trust me. It’s worth it. ~ Kathy
There’s a lot of love for Meet the Newmans at The Well-Read Moose in Coeur d’Alene, ID! It was their January Moose Gem selection. Pick up your copy at their store or another local, independent bookstore.
