BOLD Coffee & Books has a Kickstarter campaign going through September 30, 2024, to raise funds to let them open the bookstore and cafe on a strong financial footing.
Here’s more about their campaign, from their fundraising page:
The BOLD Vision: To create a welcoming and safe space for coffee and book lovers—both those who decide to come in because they see us while visiting neighboring shops, and those who view us as a destination bookstore for well-curated diverse titles, writing workshops, local author events, and more. BOLD Coffee & Books will provide sustainable income for its owners, part-time staff, and full-time manager, and it will build lasting relationships with members of the community.
Core Values: Social Justice, Atmosphere, Flavor, Diversity, Opportunity, Mutual Benefit, Sustainability
Who We Are: Tim and Ali Shaw have dreamed of opening a coffee shop bookstore for years. With Ali’s twenty years’ experience in the book business and Tim’s counseling and social work background, both have a dedication to creating safe spaces for marginalized communities to gather and uplift their voices. Combine all that with a passion for good coffee, and the vision is clear!
Location: 1755 SW Jefferson St., Portland, Oregon. This is in the Goose Hollow neighborhood of Portland, near Lincoln High School, the Multnomah Athletic Club, Providence Park, and Portland State University, among many other great businesses and locales!
Our meeting space will appeal to local organizations for positive social change, such as:
– Labor unions
– Education associations
– State senators and representatives who support progressive movements
– Social workers needing a space to meet with their clients
As well as writing and book groups we will create:
– Antiracist book club
– Disability book club
– Adoption book club
– Queer book club
– Genre (fantasy/sci fi, mystery, romance, memoir, lit fic) book clubs
– Sit Down, Shut Up, and Write groups
– Writer happy hours
– Writing critique groups
The campaign is almost doing well but needs some more backers to reach their goal. If you can help, now’s the time to do it!
