Inklings Bookshop, the Yakima community, and friends of Inklings bookseller Mimi Applebaum are pulling together to raise funds to support Mimi as she pursues a heart transplant.
Mimi has worked at Inklings since 2004. In 2000, she was diagnosed with a rare liver cancer, which also caused heart complications. She has undergone surgeries, but a heart transplant is the next step. Although she and her husband have insurance that will cover much of the cost of the surgery, Mimi will have to leave Yakima—and her job as a bookseller—while she gets a new heart and recovers. Friends and family have been helping already, but they’re reaching out for more assistance. So far, Mimi’s National Foundation for Transplants page has received $1,750 in donations; they anticipate needing $85,000 to cover expenses related to the surgery.
If you would like to follow Mimi’s surgery and recovery, updates will be posted on her blog, letsshootthemoon.com.

Your good thoughts are much appreciated.
Mimi, we’re rooting for you.
