Do you like to read military-like action thrillers? If so, you will love Brad Thor’s second book featuring the most intriguing military unit in print today. The Athena Project features a unit of Delta Force called The Athena Project, first featured in Foreign Influence. What makes this unit different? They are smart, Delta Force trained, drop dead gorgeous, women.
Briefly, the Nazis during WWII were trying to come up with weapons to end the war in their favor. One of these weapons was a teleportation device (think Star Trek). The war ended before the project was completed. Maybe not! Incidents in Paraguay, Venice, Denver, Croatia and the Czech Republic seemingly unrelated leads the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to ask for help from Delta Force. This leads to the call up of the Athena Project women. There are several cameo appearances by Thor’s mega-hero Scot Harvath.
The women’s story starts with a kidnapping of an arms dealer in Venice that leads to a shoot out and a boat chase. Next stop is a shoot out and a car chase in and around Prague. Another shoot out follows this on the Istrian Peninsula in Croatia. In between these adventures, evidence is found in the jungles of Paraguay of post-WWII teleportation attempts. Are terrorist groups involved? Meanwhile in Denver a more traditional spycraft mission is unfolding centering on Denver International Airport featuring Russian agents and the FBI.
