I plowed through this worthy sequel (due May 1st) in two sittings! Roth has built an interesting dystopian setting and left just enough questions unanswered to keep me turning pages late into the night.
This book picks up right where Divergent left off without any recap, and since it had been a year since I read the first book, I didn’t remember much. After feeling like I was missing a lot of nuances in the first few chapters, I went back and re-read the last 1/3 of Divergent, which improved the experience quite a bit.
I tend to be disappointed by the second book in a series, but this was a very strong follow-up to Divergent— suspenseful but not repetitive, bringing in new ideas and information about the world. It felt like the author had a plan for the whole story before the first book was published. I can hardly wait for book 3!
