Brandon, Jay, Jack, and Sandy
Jack and Sandy, the founders of Grass Roots, are retiring. As of Monday, February 2nd, the ownership has changed to employees of the store: Jay and Brandon Enghauser. We are so honored to take on the legacy of Grass Roots, and hope to earn the love and support that you all have shown Jack and Sandy over the last 54 years.
We are very fortunate to maintain the same crew, including our book buyer Tiffany, who has been with us for over 20 years, to bridge this transition.[…]
Keep an eye on our newsletters and social media for a letter from Jack and Sandy, information for retirement celebrations, and more details on us as new owners. Please stop by and visit!
Thank you so much,
Jay and Brandon Enghauser

And as of 2/16/26:
Jack and Sandy are also very happy with this partnership. They know Grass Roots is in good hands ![]()

From Jack and Sandy on 2/12/26:
Dear beloved reading community of Corvallis,
Sandy & I have found it necessary to delay our Retirement Party for a couple of months until completion of my treatment for “early stage” Prostate Cancer. The prognosis is very good, but it was decided that it was not worth the risk of exposure to illness for our friends to have the Celebration now.
We are indeed Blessed to have Jay & Brandon ask to continue our Commitment to serving a broad Community that is safe & accessible to ALL – and to do it through Independent Bookselling!
As Tiffany, Sandy & I have been fond of saying, “Bookselling is not for the faint of heart!”
Please join us in welcoming Jay & Brandon to the “Good Fight”!
~Jack
Jack ~ “It has been the privilege of a lifetime to serve our Community as your Independent Bookseller. My sincerest hope is that I may have helped some to find their Path and more fully realize their Potential.”
Sandy ~ “We’ve had a wonderful life, serving as booksellers in this incredibly supportive community. We would not have been able to do this without the many, many employees who helped us to run the store and we thank all of them for their time with us (including family members: Ruth Wolcott, Ann (Wolcott) Bonds, Teresa King, Lolly and Frank Gast).”
Congratulations and best wishes to Jack, Sandy, Jay, Brandon, Amber, and the whole Grass Roots community! Jack, we’re rooting for your treatment to be easy and effective. We look forward to celebrating Sandy and Jack’s retirement in the near future.
