Okay, so the first thing I have to say about this book is: IT’S HILARIOUS! The second thing I have to say about it is: IT’S A HOOT! And the third thing is… just a second while I try to stop laughing… I LOVE IT! It features Rosaline (she prefers Rosie) – the daughter of Romeo and Juliet – you remember the star-crossed lovers in Shakespeare’s old Verona? Well, in this entertaining romp from bestselling author Christina Dodd, we are treated to a “slightly altered” version of R & J’s love-poison-death story. Rosie is 20 years old; progeny of the two lovers who didn’t die, but instead got married. Some people would say that is a fate worse than death, but they seem happy enough. Anyway, Rosie’s old enough to be a real problem. She should have been married off years ago! But she’s gotten real good at passing her betrothed guys off to more, uh, deserving ladies, and she’s still a happy single. But the latest attempt by her parents looks like it will be a success until – wait for it! – he shows up dead in the garden! Folks think Rosie did it (she does find the body, after all) and it falls to our heroine to prove that rumor false. Do yourself a big favor and read The Daughter of Fair Verona. Our narrator, Rosie, is the best darned stand-up (or sit down) comedy act I’ve heard for years – and that’s saying something! It’s a grand mystery, as well – something I can never pass up. I even think I’ll recommend it to my book group. We could all do with a good laugh.
