Chuck and Dee Robinson established Village Books in 1980 in the historic Fairhaven district of Bellingham. It has been awarded the Tourism Business of the Year and honored as the 2008 Outstanding Philanthropic Small Business in Washington State. Since 2007, the store has produced a monthly radio variety show called The Chuckanut Radio Hour. Another new feature: an on-demand Espresso Book Machine, which prints out-of-print or self-published books, among them It Takes a Village Books: 30 Years of Building Community One Book at a Time, Chuck Robinson’s book commemorating the store’s 30th anniversary.
