I’ve been a John Green fan for a number of years and this is one of my favorite books for a number of reasons. Green has taken the “manic pixie girl” trope and used to create a story not about a boy chasing after some flighty, charismatic, indie chick, but instead he has crafted a story about finding out who you are as an individual, as well as the type of people you want to surround yourself with. Green’s voice is brilliant and honest and I recommend this book to anyone.

Read it before you see it— or after, or instead; who are we to tell you what to do? But we do suggest you pick up this beloved novel and other shelf-to-big-screen hits at Village Books and other independent bookstores. (We think it’s pretty fun that you can buy Paper Towns next door to a store called Paper Dreams.) Let your friendly local bookseller know whether you prefer the movie cover or the non-movie cover; you can probably get whichever you like.
