Our thoughts are with the communities affected by Washington wildfires. Big THANK YOU to all the firefighters who are working to contain the fires.
Libby Mathy of Riverwalk Books in Chelan reports that there is no visible smoke in town, just a low-level smell of it. Some people staying at the local armory for shelter. The store is staying busy.
Pat Rutledge from A Book for All Seasons in Leavenworth says their situation has improved “due to cooler temperatures and the slight drizzle.” After days of smoke and ash and detours around the town, the ash has stopped and smoke is diminishing. They feel for their neighbors in Pateros, where many homes have been lost, and hope that the weather continues to help the firefighting efforts. “A good soaking would be much appreciated by the fire crew and residents alike.”
We have yet to hear from our friends at Trail’s End Bookstore in Winthrop. There are rumors that they might have been impacted by the Carlton Complex— perhaps evacuated. We know phone and electricity were down in Winthrop for a while at least. If you have news, please share.
We’ll keep doing our rain dances.
