Have you ever wondered what the NTSB is and/or what it does? I did. I just finished Crashers, the first book in a series by Portland, OR author Dana Haynes that answers many questions about the NTSB and its “Go Teams.” (“Crashers” is the nickname for the “Go Team.”)
In this first of at least two books, we meet an NTSB team as they investigate the crash of a commercial airplane south of Portland, near Wilsonville, OR. Their controversial leader is pathologist Dr. Tommy Tomzak. With him are a voice recorder specialist, bomb expert, aviation engineer, mechanic, pilot, and crime scene specialist. Some will appear again in book two; some don’t survive book one.
Early on we know why the plane crashed but how the Go Team finds out is full of rip-roaring action. Throw in a rogue FBI Special Agent, a female former Mossad operative, and Irish terrorists from Belfast (not Dublin) and their relationships with the Go Team. The story bounces from Oregon to California several times as the team unravels the mystery.
This is a first class page turner.
