Last Sunday, Village Books, family, and friends celebrated the marriage of Paul & Kelly, two Village Books booksellers.
Thanks to an article in Shelf Awareness, a feature in Village Books’ electronic newsletter by Lindsey McGuirk, and a wonderful photo of the book-themed cake on facebook that went viral among the northwest indie bookselling community, people all over are raising a book to the happy couple.
On Monday at Queen Anne Book Company in Seattle, a family from New York and I chatted about the nuptials; during their vacation in Bellingham, the family became smitten with Village Books and signed up for the e-newsletter. They mentioned that they’ve never been anywhere like the Pacific Northwest for the love of books, and the bookstore romance story confirmed all the magical things they’d suspected.
Paul and Kelly met and fell in love while working together at Eagle Harbor Book Co. on Bainbridge, and their bookselling careers and lives took them to Bellingham. Paul Hanson is a former Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association (PNBA) President and a current member of the PNBA Book Awards Committee. You might recognize Kelly as the star of the recently featured Kobo vs. Kindle film from Village Books.
We wish Paul and Kelly a lifetime of happiness and great books together!
(And take a close look at that cake– the frosted spines are Book Lust, Great Expectations, Madeline, The Fellowship of the Ring, and All’s Well That Ends Well. Perfect.)
