I really enjoyed “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking-Glass” by Lewis Carroll when I was younger. Only when I got older did I understand how much of the story involved power and the fight to wield it over others. That lesson served me well in college and continues to this day.

I still return to Oz, to see Tik Tok & Scarecrow & the Patchwork Girl. Just as I return to the riverbank to visit Rat & Mole & Mr. Toad. Old friends are often best.

I read and re-read all the the Laura Ingalls Wilder Little House books. I felt like I knew Laura and her family personally. Even into adulthood I sometimes stop and think, “What would Laura Ingalls Wilder think about how we do things today?” – with all our “modern conveniences” and technology.
