Yesterday on the public radio program The Writer’s Almanac, Garrison Keillor read from Oregon author John Daniel’s new poetry collection, Of Earth: New and Selected Poems. Listen here for the full five-minute program, which ends with Keillor reading Daniel’s lovely poem ‘A Prayer Among Friends.’
Of Earth, published by Lost Horse Press, is Daniel’s first collection of poetry in almost two decades. NWBL contributor Brian Juenemann reviewed the collection here, where he mentions that the poem on page 84 has been previously published in very different form; you can also read “Poem for Fern Ridge Library” along the walls of the Veneta, OR library.
Daniel is a three-time Oregon Book Award winner and won a Pacific Northwest Book Award in 2006 for his nonfiction work Rogue River Journal: A Winter Alone.
