It’s the 30th anniversary for Banned Books Week this week—time to celebrate your favorite banned and challenged books. At Chapter One Book Store in Hamilton, MT, they’re discounting a different banned book each day this week. Today it’s Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, which was the fifth most challenged book of 2011, according to the American Library Association. Later in the week, they’ll feature The Master and Margarita; 1984; some Shel Silverstein; One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (including a T-shirt of the book from Out of Print Clothing); and a dictionary, says Chapter One co-owner Shawn Wathen.
Chapter One is also participating in the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression’s Virtual Read-Out, where they posted this video of co-owner Shawn Wathen’s son, Brendan, reading from The Catcher in the Rye.
