Island Books’ Roger Page lead the store’s March newsletter with a thread that ran from his daughter’s Senioritis, to his long-tenured, very capable staff at the store. Though they all smile and nod, at this point “they pretty much know what to do and don’t have a lot of use for me.” Which is why Page has declared—that’s what’s great about being king of the castle; even if you’re not really essential, you can still declare stuff—Island Books’ version of March Madness, a month of “Rampant and Whimiscal Discounts,” culminating with Page sitting at home eating cake on his birthday, this Saturday, Mar 24th, while customers madly spend these special $5 bank notes featuring the boss’s own head. The king’s not here. Long live the king.
