In her regular column for the Yakima Herald-Republic, Inklings Bookshop owner Susan Richmond muses on the store’s 2011 bestseller list, noting how unique it is compared to some of the national bestseller lists and how it’s “sprinkled with sparkling gems reflecting different facets of our unique reading character (and characters).”
Half of the titles on the store’s top ten list are not on any other bestseller list this year—not to our knowledge, at least. They’re by local authors or authors who’ve visited the Yakima Valley this year. They include Tattoos on the Heart by the Rev. Gregory Boyle (#3), who visited a Lutheran church in Yakima last spring; Heartstrings: A Tale of Danish Loyalty, Resistance, and Homecoming by Inga Wiehl of Yakima (#7); and Organizing the Disorganized Child by Marcella Moran (#9), who visited Yakima in April. Read the full list here.
Richmond tells us that if the list was a little longer it would include 2011 Holiday Books Guide titles Craft Beers of the Pacific Northwest and The Lego Ideas Book, and if children’s books were included, Inheritance by Christopher Paolini would be among the top ten.
