In the midst of the storm over a pastor wanting to burn the Quran in Florida and a Portland pastor’s Facebook page being pulled over his opposition to the burning, a Portland church has ordered copies of the Quran from Broadway Books and asked that they be distributed for free. The Rev. Scott Dalgarno, interim pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Northeast Portland, told the Oregonian that the church leadership had spent about $600, ordering 100 copies of the Quran in English, which will be available free at Broadway Books, 1714 N.E. Broadway, early next week, one book per customer.
Broadway owner Robert Dyer told Shelf Awareness: “We jumped at the chance (and of course gave the church a hefty discount) . . . Even though the book burning has been called off, we are going ahead with the project…. As this is a freedom of speech as well as a freedom of religion issue, it hits us where we live.”
